Terms of Service — String Education

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and String Education ("String," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the String AI-powered educational operating system and all related services (collectively, the "Platform").

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an educational institution or organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Platform.

2. Service Description

2.1 Overview

String is an AI-powered educational operating system designed to help educators, students, parents, and administrators manage curriculum, track progress, generate insights, and enhance learning outcomes through intelligent tools and automation.

2.2 Features

The Platform may include, but is not limited to, the following features:

  • AI-powered lesson planning and curriculum management
  • Student performance tracking and learning analytics
  • Automated grading and assessment tools
  • Communication tools for teachers, students, and parents
  • Report generation and institutional dashboards
  • Integration with third-party educational tools and services

3. Registration & Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

To access most features of the Platform, you must create an account by providing accurate, current, and complete information. You agree to update your information promptly if it changes. Accounts for minor students must be created or authorised by a parent, guardian, or educational institution.

3.2 Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • All activities that occur under your account.
  • Notifying us immediately at legal@string.education if you suspect unauthorised access.
  • Ensuring that your use complies with your institution's policies and applicable law.

4. Payment & Subscriptions

4.1 Plans & Pricing

String offers free and paid subscription plans. Pricing, features, and plan details are published on our website and may be updated from time to time. Changes to pricing for existing subscribers will be communicated at least 30 days in advance.

4.2 Billing

For paid plans:

  • Subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis, depending on the plan selected.
  • Payment is processed through secure third-party payment processors. String does not store full credit card numbers.
  • You authorise us to charge the payment method on file for recurring subscription fees.

4.3 Free Trials

Free trials, where offered, automatically convert to paid subscriptions at the end of the trial period unless cancelled. You will be notified before any charge is applied.

4.4 Taxes

All fees are exclusive of applicable taxes. You are responsible for any taxes, duties, or levies imposed by your jurisdiction in connection with your use of the Platform.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 String's Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in and to the Platform — including its software, design, logos, trademarks, documentation, and AI models — are and remain the exclusive property of String Education.

  • You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works of any part of the Platform without our prior written consent.
  • The String name, logo, and all related marks are trademarks of String Education. Unauthorised use is prohibited.

Your subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Platform for its intended educational purposes.

5.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create or upload to the Platform ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant String a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:

  • Host, store, and display your User Content as necessary to provide the services.
  • Process your User Content through AI features you choose to use.
  • Create anonymised, aggregated datasets for service improvement (never identifying individual users).

5.3 AI-Generated Content

Content generated by String's AI features is provided as a tool to assist educators and learners. You are responsible for reviewing and validating AI-generated content before use. String does not claim ownership of AI-generated outputs created at your direction.

6. Service Level & Availability

6.1 Uptime Commitment

String targets 99.9% uptime for the Platform, measured on a monthly basis, excluding scheduled maintenance windows. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated at least 48 hours in advance where possible.

6.2 Support

Paid plan subscribers receive priority support with response times defined in the applicable service level agreement. Free plan users receive community and standard email support.

7. Privacy & Data Protection

Your privacy is fundamental to String. Our collection, use, and protection of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.

  • We comply with GDPR, CCPA, FERPA, and other applicable data protection regulations.
  • We never sell personal data of users, including students.
  • Student data is used exclusively for educational purposes as authorised by the relevant institution.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • String is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.
  • String shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, revenue, or profits.
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the Platform shall not exceed the amount you paid to String in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
  • AI-generated outputs are provided for informational and educational assistance only. String is not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated content.

9. Termination

9.1 Termination by You

You may close your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately.

9.2 Termination by String

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, engage in conduct harmful to other users or the Platform, or if required by law. Where possible, we will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy the breach before termination.

Refund policy: If String terminates your account without cause, you will receive a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of your prepaid subscription. No refund is issued for terminations due to Terms violations.

9.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, you may request an export of your User Content within 30 days. After this period, we will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

10. General Provisions

10.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction.

10.2 Amendments

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the Platform at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Platform after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

10.3 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
